Mumbai Tour

Most of the people who arrive in Bombay have stars in their eyes. The commercial capital of India promises different things to different individuals. Situated on the western coast of India, Bombay is best visited in the winter months from November to March. In the past Gateway of India used to be the arrival point for visitors from the west. Today the Gateway of India is synonymous with Bombay. This landmark of Bombay is a must visit of the city. It was built way back in 1911 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar. For the historians a visit to the Prince of Wales Museum is a must.

Tourist Destinations: There are a number of tourist attractions in Mumbai. A must visit is the the Gateway of India ,Prince of Wales Museum,Haji Ali Mosque, Town Hall, and many more the following are...
» Gateway of India

The Gateway is built from yellow Kharodi basalt and reinforced concrete. The central dome is 48 feet in diameter and 83 feet above ground at its highest point. The whole harbour front was realigned in order to come in line with a planned esplanade which would sweep down to the centre of the town.
» Haji Ali Mosque

The Haji Ali shrine is located on a small island on the Arabian Sea. There is a walkway which connects the shore to the shrine. This walkway is the only way to enter the shrine and it can be used only during low tides. High tides and monsoon rains completely cover the walkway. Inside the shrine there is a courtyard which normally sports a festive, talkative atmosphere.
» Town Hall

This pleasantly neo-classical building now houses the library of the Asiatic Society, as well as a small museum. The latter contains statues of some 19th century governors of Bombay, some British scholars and administrators and two Indian philanthropists and an Indian scholar.

» Prince of Wales Museum
Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, Bombay The Prince of Wales Museum was established to commemorate the Crown Prince's visit to Bombay in 1905. The future George V laid the foundation stone and work began on the building which was designed and built to represent the ancient and medieval architectural styles of western India.

» Juhu Beach

Juhu Beach is also a bourgeois paradise, filled to the gills with screaming children, courting couples and rowdy adolescents. If you want a more fancy excursion, however, retreat behind Juhu's many five star hotels, for a steaming cup of coffee and a splendid view of the coast. The most popular of these beachfront hotels are the Sun and Sand and Holiday Inn. The government run Juhu Centaur also has a 24 hour coffee shop with a view of the sea.
