Rajasthan's beautiful Pink City Jaipur, was the stronghold of a clan of rulers whose three hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink City because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city, Jaipur's bazaars sell embroidered leather shoes, blue pottery, tie and dye scarves and other exotic wares. Western Rajasthan itself forms a convenient circuit, in the heart of the Thar desert which has shaped its history, lifestyles and architecture.

» Amber Fort
11 km from Jaipur, Amber (pronounced Amer) Fort preserve its glory from the days when it was the capital of the ruling Kachhawa clan of the princely state before it was shifted to Jaipur in 1727.
 
» Jaigarh Fort
 
One of the most spectaculat forts of Jaipur, Jaigarh fort or 'Victory Fort' is situated on a hilltop. One of the few hard-core fortress and military structures of medieval India that are well preserved and are almost intact, this fort has palaces, granary, well-planned cannon foundry, several temples, a tall tower and a giant mounted cannon known as Jaivan, which is believed to be the largest cannon in the world.
         
» Jantar Mantar
 
One of the five observatories of India built by Sawai Jai Singh, the leading astronomer of his times and the founder of Jaipur, Jantar Mantar of Jaipur is one of the largest and the best preserved.
 
» City Palace
 
Raja Sawai Jai Singh built the City Palace Complex in the heart of his newly founded capital and it is clearly one of the most imposing and magnificent examples of art and architecture. The succeeding rulers made additions to the building later. Presenting a pleasing a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture, a part of this palace is still occupied by the royal family.
 
» Moti Dungri Temple
           
 
Situated almost in the centre of the pink city, Moti Dungri Hill (meaning Pearl Hill) boasts of an exotic palace that belonged to the son of Maharaja Madho Singh and is still a private property of the royal family and visitors are not allowed inside the premises of the palace. Recently, Rajmata Gayatri Devi and his son Jagat Singh used to live there. It is built as a replica of the Scottish castle. However, it is the Ganesh Temple, which is most famous here.
                         
» Galtaji Temple
 
An ancient pilgrimage spot where the great saint Galav is believed to have spent his life and did his meditation; Galta is situated 10 km from Jaipur on Jaipur-Agra highway near Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh. It is known maily for its temples, pavilions, natural springs and holy 'kunds'. The famous temples of the place include the triple-storied temple of Balaji, which appeals to the aesthetic sense of the visitors and is built in pink stone.
                                       
 
» Kanak Vrindavan Valley
 
 
The vast complex of well developed and planned gardens along with an exquisitely and intricately carved beige stone temple with its marble columns and lattices, it is situated in the foothills of Nahargarh hills as we proceed from Jaipur to Amer.
                                       
 
» How to reach Jaipur
                       
 

By Air : Airport nearest to Jaipur is Sanganer Airport, which is hardly 10 km from the city. Domestic flights connect Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur and Udaipur to Jaipur. However, there is only one international flight to Dubai.

By Road : Jaipur is well connected by trains to all the major cities of India such as Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Chennai, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Ahmedabad.

By Road : A network of good motor able roads and private and government buses connect Jaipur to all the nearby major cities such as Delhi and Agra.
